Mojito Pointe Is going to be HUGE for Lake Charles, LA

If you have never been to Las Vegas you may never have experienced the grand MGM resort properties.  Two weeks ago I  visited Vegas and discovered that the Bellagio, Luxor, Excalibur, Mandalay Bay, The Hotel at Mandalay Bay, Monte Carlo, The Mirage and New York New York are just a few of the MGM resort international properties.

The MGM Brand of Vegas Resorts

Upon returning home to Lake Charles from my Las Vegas vacation, there was the exciting announcement  from Creative Casinos managing partner Dan Lee  that his bid to obtain $400 million in financing for the construction and opening of Mojito Pointe casino resort in Lake Charles will be aided with a management agreement with MGM Resorts International.

MGM will invest in the Mojito Pointe project, but the management agreement goes much deeper than just  a financial commitment. Mojito Pointe is set to be completed in 2013, it will be a 21 month construction process.

 Mojito Pointe Lake Charles Casino

Once completed, Mojito Pointe will sit on 242 acres of property owned by the Port of Lake Charles, next door to Pinnacle Entertainment’s L’Auberge casino resort.  Mojito Pointe  will have 1,500 slot machines and 50 table games, along with a 2,500-capacity showroom, spa, tennis center, school of falconry and a 18-hole golf course.

Mojito Pointe will be a $400,000,000 casino resort and is an exciting development for Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish.  The Mojito Pointe casino will also create new jobs and bring new residents to the Lake Charles area stimulating both our economy and our real estate market.

I was part of the L’Auberge Casino opening marketing team in 2005. Dan Lee was the man behind the L’Auberge/ Pinnacle project, so I have seen his vision turn into reality.

During my tenure of employment, I saw how many individuals benefited directly with jobs in Southwest Louisiana.  Once L’Auberge  was built, Lake Charles, LA became a destination.  With job creation our economy is stimulated and when Lake Charles attracts visitors they also spend money in our City which helps retail stores, restaurants and other business owners.  With increased individual incomes and relocation of new residents, our real estate market is also stimulated!  The casinos also give back to our community through donations, sponsorships and tax revenues.

Mojito Pointe will have a direct impact on jobs in Southwest Louisiana.  The Mojito Pointe project will generate 1,500 construction jobs over the next 2 years.  When completed it will employ 2,000 people with permanent jobs generating over $72 million in wages for our local Lake Charles economy.  There will be a ripple effect felt not only in Calcasieu Parish but throughout Southwest Louisiana.

Mojito Pointe will generate over $27 million in local tax revenue for Calcasieu Parish.  The gaming tax will generate $12.3 million in local taxes which will be dedicated to the school board, Sowela, and all municipalities in the parish.

With the creation of permanent jobs and increased wages, individuals and management relocating to Lake Charles will need housing and others  within our community will be able to buy homes!

During the next 21 months, it will be exciting to watch the development of Mojito Pointe who will be breaking ground soon.

Lake Charles LA is associated with the big boys in Vegas now with MGM Resorts International backing Mojito Pointe!

  1. Marilyn…such incredible economic news for your area! I only wish the dumb nuts that run this state could see what we are losing to the surrounding states by not allowing gambling! So Sad!
    Great Post indeed!

Thank you for stopping by my Blog and commenting. We already benefit from The L’Auberge Resort, Mojito Pointe is going to just be icing on the cake for Lake Charles! I can’t wait until 2013!

  2. On the one hand , as a Texan I agree with Thom and his statement re: gambling here in Texas. However, as a Texan, I believe if this were to ever be made legal , it would be brought in with the same myopic attitude re: everything about gambling in Texas. That is to say, don’t p-off the Southern Baptist Convention. So one would be able to gamble in this corner of a Texas casino in the morning, but would have to move to another corner in the evening, and you could have an adult beverage after noon on sunday, but not after 2AM any night of the week, and if there was a horse track involved in the place, you could but a lottery ticket (just one), but no other gambling. No, it’s probably best to just leave things as they are, and let the little old ladies play their nine-liners at the c-store.
