Its that time of year again, and as the Christmas decorations are packed away, the purple, green and gold of Mardi Gras comes out on display!
Did you know that Lake Charles boasts the state’s second largest Mardi Gras?
Beginning January 6th we will begin to see the yummy “King Cakes” in the grocery stores! King cakes are filled with fruit filling, fresh cream filling, or a combination of both. King Cakes are decorated in the traditional Mardi Gras colors purple green and gold. This is a chocolate King Cake with praline filling that a friend brought to me warm out of the oven, very hard to resist!
Mardi Gras celebration continues through Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras day) which is always the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent.
From 12th Night through Mardi Gras Day 42 Lake Charles Krewes will celebrate. Lake Charles homes will begin to be decorated, Mardi Gras flags will be displayed and gowns for Krewe Balls will be purchased. Theme costumes will be coodinated and Kings and Queens will rule with their courts. If you are lucky you get to witness all this beautiful pagentry at a Krewe Ball where you can party like a rock star!
Mardi Gras helps our local economy and brings visitors to Southwest Louisiana.
