The question I am asked most frequently by those relocating to Lake Charles is what does Lake Charles have to offer for those who like to shop? Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you I am an experienced shopper. Having lived in Lake Charles for 30 years, I am up to the task when it comes to giving shopping recommendations!
In addition to having major name brand stores, Lake Charles also has many locally owned shops.
DOWNTOWN LAKE CHARLES SHOPPING
Amid the Historic Section of Downtown Ryan Street, you will find many options. Local favorite for fresh baked goods is Sweets and Treats to the North, heading South on Ryan on the Corner you will find Gigi’s Fitness which healthy downtown active residents love! Further South in this block is a favorite restaurant, Luna Bar & Grill.
As Downtown Lake Charles grows with the vision of City improvements we can look forward to more retail shops making their way to the downtown section of Lake Charles.
Prien Lake Mall in Lake Charles, Louisiana
The first thing out of town buyers ask me when they arrive to Lake Charles is “where is the mall?”
When I moved to Lake Charles in 1981 I had the same concern about shopping. So ladies and gentlemen without further anticipation I present to you the Prien Lake Mall!
Located on Prien Lake Road in Lake Charles, the mall is appropriately named Prien Lake Mall. The Prien Lake Mall has undergone several renovations over the last 20 years. The last expansion added a Food Court, Cinemark Theatre and more stores. There are four major anchor stores that make up the exterior of the mall, JC Penney, Sears, Kohls, and Dillards.
Other namebrand stores found inside the mall are The Gap, The Children’s Place, American Eagle, Victoria’s Secret, Kirklands as well as other stores and vendors. My favorite store is Talbots. Recognize the Red Door Ladies?
The Lake Charles Power Center (Derek Drive, I-210 Cameron Exit) also offers shopping, restaurants Wal Mart Supercenter, Lowe’s, PetsMart, Toys R Us, Home Depot, Academy Sports, Old Navy, Michael’s Hobby & Crafts are all located in this area.
The Southgate Shopping Center (Ryan and Alamo) offers Books-A-Million, UPS Store, Office Depot, and other shops.
Lake Charles LA also has several unique boutique shops and stores that are located in strip malls in and around the Prien Lake Mall area and along Ryan Street.
